Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born on October 20, 1964, she is the 49th Vice-President of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she previously was the attorney general for California from 2011 until 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. After establishing her career as an Alameda County District Attorney, Harris was hired to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. Then she was appointed the City Attorney of San Francisco. In 2003 she was elected the district attorney of San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010. In 2014, she won re-election. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate elections to become the 2nd African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to be a senator in the United States Senate. She was a senator and advocated for healthcare reform as well as federal cannabis de-scheduling the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons as well as progressive tax reform. In the news, attention was paid to her shrewd questions of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. The most notable was Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual misconduct.
